How we work

Our AI Tool Playbook for Rapid Development

Mobile app development and application development services, accelerated by AI — for startups and enterprises — without cutting quality.

Speed doesn’t mean shortcuts. We pair AI-assisted execution with the same disciplined process that won us the MTN/FNB App of the Year award three years running — 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Every stage below runs on a specific tool, connected through MCP integrations where it matters. This is the stack we use on our own products and on client builds.

01Phase

Estimate

Every project starts with a structured scope, not a vague brief. Clients define requirements in our multi-agent AI tool, which returns a recommended tech stack and a detailed cost estimate in minutes — not weeks of back-and-forth.

02Phase

Design

We collaborate with clients on user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma — accelerated by Figma Make and auto-prototype features. For early UI exploration and mood boards, we use Stitch by Google Labs to generate and compare options fast.

03Phase

Planning

Approved user stories, functional requirements, and technical specs are drafted in ChatStack — including Cursor-ready planning prompts. Multi-session workshops in Cursor Plan Mode ask clarifying questions and produce the full project plan: ERD, Jira tickets with acceptance criteria, and implementation prompts shaped by rules we have refined over years of delivery.

04Phase

Project Management

Two-way sync between Cursor and Jira via the Atlassian MCP keeps agents aligned with exact requirements and acceptance criteria — and the board stays current. Standup and client-call transcripts are converted into timebound actions in Slack and client-call minutes via email, using Gemini-powered agents. Weaver, our own engineering intelligence platform, pulls activity from Cursor, Jira, GitHub, Figma, Slack, and Google Workspace into one nightly-synced dashboard, so we can track utilisation and delivery risk across the team without chasing status updates.

05Phase

Development

Our engineers work in Cursor with model selection, coding standards, sub-agents, automated testing scripts, and security rules applied through team training and project-specific Cursor rules. Figma MCP imports designs pixel-perfect into the codebase. Supabase MCP connects the backend directly — applying security rules and running security audits before anything ships.

06Phase

Observability & Testing

PostHog gives us full-stack analytics across the platform — session replay, funnels, and performance data for debugging and optimisation. Patrol runs automated UI tests on real devices and emulators; failures loop back to Cursor agents for a fix-and-retest cycle.

07Phase

Bug Reporting

Clients report bugs and enhancement requests with a shake or tap. Shakebug creates Jira tickets automatically and attaches PostHog session data so we can reproduce the issue without a long email thread.

08Phase

Deployment

Mobile apps deploy to the App Store and Google Play from Cursor via the Codemagic MCP — one-click builds, signing, and submission. Web apps deploy to staging and production on Vercel, with built-in AI-driven performance insights.

09Phase

Maintenance

Once live, PostHog monitors performance and crash logs in real time. Critical issues surface as Jira tickets automatically, so the team can respond before users escalate.

Why it works

The Economics of AI-Accelerated Development

Execution got cheap. Thinking didn't.

Over 95% of our own code is now AI-assisted. The bottleneck moved upstream — from writing code to deciding precisely what to build.

So we invest in requirements first.

Every project starts with structured planning before a line of production code is written. The playbook above is how we scale that discipline.

The result: speed without the usual trade-off.

Clear requirements plus AI-assisted execution means we move fast and still hit the quality bar our MTN/FNB App of the Year wins are judged on.

Questions we get asked

App Development FAQs

Do you provide mobile app development and application development services?

Yes — we design and build native and cross-platform mobile apps, web apps, and full application development services for startups and enterprises. Our AI-accelerated playbook covers estimate, design, build, store submission, and maintenance.

How does AI actually make app development faster and cheaper?

AI assists our engineers throughout implementation and testing — over 95% of our own code is now AI-assisted. That compresses the build phase. We reinvest the time saved into structured requirements up front, so speed doesn't come at the cost of a clear spec.

Does using AI mean lower quality?

No — the opposite is the point. We pair AI-assisted execution with disciplined, human-reviewed requirements and QA, the same process behind our MTN/FNB App of the Year wins in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

What AI tools does App Developer Studio use to build apps?

Cursor for AI-assisted development and planning, Figma and Stitch for design, ChatStack for requirements and estimates, Jira and Slack for project management, Supabase for backend, PostHog for observability, Patrol for device testing, Shakebug for client bug reports, Codemagic for mobile deployment, and Vercel for web deployment. Each tool connects to the next through MCP integrations where available.

Can I see what is happening on my project?

Yes — where it helps, we give clients access to Figma for design review, Jira for ticket visibility, and PostHog for live analytics once the app is in testing or production. The exact setup depends on your project; we agree it during planning.

Should I build a native or hybrid app?

It depends on your budget, timeline, and how much of the phone's native functionality you need. We build both natively and with Flutter, and we'll recommend whichever fits your project during the prototype phase.

Do you work with startups and enterprises outside South Africa?

Yes — our team has designed and built apps for clients on five continents. We work remotely as standard and adapt communication and process to enterprise procurement where needed.

How much does it cost to build an app?

It depends on scope, platforms, and integrations. Get a fast, structured estimate with ChatStack, or read our cost breakdown in the Advice section.
