Background

Drivers and passengers spend hours on the road with little useful connection to the people nearby. Generic social apps ignore the vehicle as context. Generic safety tools ignore the social loop. Vindmy was built to join those needs: profiles and chats grounded in a vehicle tag, plus a home-screen rail for urgent roadside alerts.

Problem Statement

People on the road want to find others by distance and vehicle preferences, start a conversation from a plate or QR code, and warn nearby users about panic, medical need, reckless driving, or danger zones. Doing that without publishing exact GPS of peers is hard. Location is required for fanout. Raw maps of other users are not.

Solution

Vindmy links every account to a Vindmy tag (a physical or virtual vehicle registration). Location-aware discovery, swipeable profiles with likes and matches, direct and group messaging, and a Home safety rail sit on top of that identity. Exact coordinates stay server-side for alert fanout. Discovery shows proximity instead of raw GPS. Premium and freemium tiers shape discovery depth, verification, and advertising without locking freemium users out of core messaging and alerts.

Home, Discovery, and Chats

Three surfaces carry most of the product: the safety command centre, social matching, and live messaging.

Vindmy panic alert confirmation modal over the dimmed Home screen, before sending a nearby alert
Home & Safety: confirm before send. Panic and related alerts fan out to nearby users within server-enforced radii.

Discovery: filter by distance and vehicle, then like or skip in a swipeable deck with mutual matching rules.
Vindmy chats hub listing direct threads and group memberships
Chats: live direct threads and groups with unread badges, requests, and invitations after a plate or QR connect.

Under the hood

Key Features

Vindmy alert rail with medical emergency, high-jacking zone, high-accident zone, reckless driver, and panic buttons
01

Home & safety alert rail

Users confirm and send Panic, Medical, Reckless Driver, High-Jacking Zone, and High Accident Zone alerts from a vertical rail on Home. Server-enforced radii keep fanout local: Panic and Reckless Driver at 1 km, Medical at 100 m.

02

Discovery by distance and vehicle

Search nearby profiles by distance (5–200 km) and manufacturer or model. Results appear as a grid and as a swipeable deck for liking, skipping, and undoing, with mutual discovery preferences.

03

Plate scan and QR contact

Start a conversation by scanning a vehicle registration or a profile QR deep link. Message requests, group invites, and delivery states keep contact intentional rather than noisy.

Profiles tied to a Vindmy tag

Every account links to a physical or virtual vehicle registration. Profiles show photo carousels, alias, vehicle details, bio, and verification chrome for eligible premium users.

05

Freemium and premium tiers

Premium adds richer discovery, unlimited liking for eligible genders, verification pathways, and ad-free browsing. Freemium users still join discovery, messaging, and alerts with tier-appropriate limits.

06

Privacy as a product feature

Exact coordinates stay server-side for safety fanout. Discovery surfaces proximity instead of raw GPS. Users can hide, block, report, and manage notification preferences.

What we had to solve

Challenges and Solutions

Vindmy awareness screen mapping community hazard zones such as high accident and hijacking areas, rather than individual user locations

Safety without a map of peers

Roadside alerts need location to reach the right people, but the client should not expose exact peer coordinates. We kept GPS warm for push fanout on the server and showed proximity only in discovery.

Social rules that stay mutual

Gender and subscription rules govern photo blur, like quotas, and upsell moments. Bidirectional discovery preferences keep matching mutual so the deck does not turn into a one-way broadcast.

Alert fanout with short TTLs

Different alert types need different radii and lifetimes. Reckless Driver, for example, uses a short TTL so stale warnings do not linger after the moment has passed.

What happened

Outcome

Vindmy gives people on the road a single place to connect and stay informed: tag-linked identity, location-aware discovery, messaging, and community alerts that fan out without turning the client into a live map of everyone nearby.

Tag-linked
profiles, chats, and contact flows grounded in a vehicle registration
Multi-radius
panic, medical, and zone alerts fanned out within server-enforced ranges
5–200 km
discovery distance with manufacturer and model filters

Future Directions

The product can deepen verification pathways, refine freemium discovery limits, and expand group and alert tooling as the community grows, without changing the core contract: connect through a vehicle tag, warn nearby users when it matters, and keep exact peer locations off the client.

Conclusion

Vindmy shows how lifestyle networking and roadside awareness can share one mobile product when identity, discovery, messaging, and alerts are designed together. Privacy sits in the architecture, not as an afterthought. Explore our AI-Accelerated App Development service to see how we build similar cross-platform apps for other clients.
